Royal Irish Regiment unsure
Hi all,
I am unable to place this RIR QVC bronze badge - is it a QVC version of K&K 690 but is that not K&K 689. Not a collar badge. Glengarry ? This hobby ! Cheers Dean |

Dean
this is the 1st Pattern Field Cap and FSH (Foreign Service Helmet) badge for the Royal Irish Rifles. Sealed on 29/3/1898 with the description "Badge Field Cap & Foreign Service Helmet all ranks bronze, first pattern" SPN 4633/1898 sealed 29/03/1898 [WO359/9 p 55 and WO359/10 p 92]. Superseded by SPN 4633A/1902 sealed 07/01/1902 [WO359/11 p 35 and WO359/12 p 2] with a Tudor Crown As indicated the badge was blackened brass and is approx 42 cm high. It is mis-described in Churchill as a collar badge. As Alan has indicated , other ranks of The Royal Irish Rifles did not wear collar badges until after the Royal Ulster Rifles entered the North Irish Brigade when SPN 18856 was sealed for them on 03/12/1962 More info in this thread http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...+collar+badges John |
