What Was Your Favorite Find Of The Year?
Okay Chaps,
We start one of these threads every year, I think I'm a little early but as I'm not expecting much in the mail these last days of the year and as I was pondering the question myself, I thought I would kick things off. I can't say it's been a banner year for me, but that said I have been able to make steady headway with some of my collecting interest. But perhaps one of my most enjoyable finds of this year was the HM silver Equatorial Corps cap badge (photo attached). There were some other close contenders for the top spot but when it came down to it, this one just ticked all the boxed for me. So, I would love to hear what was your favorite addition of the year...? Cheerio and very best luck in your collecting for the year ahead, Roy

71 Indep Inf Bde
The prize for 2017 goes to.......the upper sign - 71 Indep Inf Bde - probably the first pattern. Formed by the redesignation of 3 London Inf Bde in Nov 40. Comprised 8 Y&L, 9 Y&L and 7 King's Own, the Brigade lost its Independent status (and this sign) when, in May 42, it was resubordinated to 42 Armd Div and later to 53 (Welsh) Inf Div. Its original battalions all ended up in India/Burma. The sign has been on my wanted list for about 54 years! Mike

Mine is a modest postcard depicting a volunteer of the City of London Volunteer Corps, the acquisition of which finally enabled me, after a long-standing suspicion, positively to ID the specific button worn by the unit.
No wow factor here really, just a very gratifying find. Merry Christmas, JT |

Yeh G'day Roy
I have a short list of stand outs, first cab off the rank is a "Yankee" mate who sent me a really nice New South Wales Lancers Pre Federation cap badge, thanks Roy. Second place goes to the Australian Signallers first issue, the 1904 to 1916 large crossed flags issue. However the top billing goes to, An 1897 Hallmarked Silver 17th Lancers Arm Badge / Chadd, thanks to Mac and Irish Jack and for good measure Irish is a "Yankee" as well. Thanks to all the players involved. But next year will be the No 2 year of all time, more about that next year Hey Mac ? Merry Christmas to all. Regards Phil. |

This year
Been a slower year but a good one none the Less.
Have to say my 21st SNCO HM Arm badge to SSM Seabrook from the Late Gordon Grey collection is right up there along with my my ultra rare 17th 1864 HM Arm Motto which pre dates the more common 1865 Firmin one. Phil all the best buddy was happy to oblige in getting your Arm motto. Best Mac |

41st Byron Regiment
Certainly not the most expensive badge I have picked up this year but the 41st Byron Regiment from the Australian 1930-42 is my favourite because it was the last of the infantry regiment badges I needed to complete that part of the set, only a few Light Horse Regiments to go now to complete the full set.

Can I have a top three?
I have wanted one of these King's shoulder titles for a long time. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=142192 This shoulder title was in a box of odds at a local auction. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=145687 This, along with a Manchester City Battalion cap badge and a few other bits and bobs turned up at a local auction. It is in such an unused condition that I at first thought that it was a copy. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=146705 It has been a good year for badges that I never expected to own cropping up in some of the smaller auction houses in South Shropshire.
