Default Cast KOMR badge

I have come across this version of Kings Own Malta Regiment officers collar-sized badge in the past and was lucky to obtain one during the good old days.

It is cast and I believe it is a wartime make when there was a shortage of practically everything on the Island! It is also indicative of the wartime privations that badge was not oxidised.

It is to be noted that there are two tiny slots E&W in the surrounding wreath at the sites where fixing loops/blade would normally be attached.

I would welcome any comments and also appreciate if any member has similar in their collection and could post a relevant pic

Something similar I have in my collection would be the type below. Size-wise would be between a collar badge and a cap badge with two lugs slightly offset from each other.

May possibly be theatre-made badges to offset wartime shortages and to cater for influx of officer ranks. KOMR officers wore such bronze collar badges on OSDm albeit with more pristine finish.

Yes I do agree with you GTB. The badge that was casted seemed slightly larger than the officer's collar badges and again the details and finishing is much sharper as you have pointed out.

Regarding the cast KOMR badge I'm quoting Malta At War Museum Web-site;

"King's Own Malta Regiment bronze collar badge worn by officers on their Barathea No.2 Dress and Khaki Drill Nos 3/4 Dress. This example was manufactured at HM Dockyard Malta during WW2 to make up for lack of supplies".

Regards.
