They were worn from 1908 - though only received WO Pattern nos in 1915 ( temporary -601/1915; then 'proper' one 9025/1916). However, the battalion was disbanded in 1922.
(The reformed battalion of 1939 had a slightly different design.) Both look alright although they have lost their blackening. At least one of the angels has a thick neck which is marginally less common than the thin neck type. |

That’s great information, I have a couple of shoulder titles that go with them so I suppose they are from the same era!
Kind regards Chay |

Hi,
Not 'nit picking' here in anyway, but they're not angels but Maid of Erin harps. The Maid of Erin represents the concept of Ireland and dates back to the 17th Century and James 1. Hope that's helpful. Regards, Dave Last edited by mule-73k; 24-12-17 at 04:49 PM. Reason: spelling |

Thanks Dave, I have come across various terms for different harps on Irish insignia and I'd very much like to find the correct nomenclature. For example, I've seen this one as the 'Harp of Erin' - does that incl;ude the maid / angel ? I see that the eg Connaught Rangers have the Harp of Brian Boru !?

For me the Brian Boru harp is the one used on the London Irish cap badge. The Maid of Erin is the female harp found on the Royal Irish Rifles, Liverpool Irish etc and the Connaught's looks more like the Queen Mary Harp to me. Just my option!
