IMG-20110625-00372.jpg This badge does not appear often and various versions do exist. It was worn as a beret badge. Regards, Will |

Yes they are scarce, picked up 2 over the years and both different. Some have lost their silver and are more brass in appearance. I have a feeling many were made in the field? At the end of the North African campaign they were entitled to wear the Desert Rat cloth insignia, an honour bestowed on them by the Brits. (these cloth insignia attributed to South Africans are very scarce). Very lucky to have one complete grouping in my collection. Brian |

I've often wondered why, seemingly, only the 4th SA AC Regt had it's own badge

I would say so Iain. A great picture showing the Desert Rat badge.
