Gibraltar Services Police Cap Badges
Hi Guys,
I'm doing a bit of work into the modern Gibraltar Services Police cap badges. The two that I have (see attached images) are both marked: WM DOWLER (B'HAM) Do any other forum members have examples of these badges with different maker markings. Both badges appear to be chrome plated over a gilding metal. Regards Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 16-11-13 at 12:31 AM. |

There is also the marking: Dowler. Birmingham I'm wondering if there are any other badges out there with different markings to Dowler. Any chance of a rear image of your badge - I may be able to identify the maker from the slider used. Regards Chris |

Chris, My Gibraltar Services Police badges are marked Insp-FIRMIN, Const-DOWLER BIRMINGHAM.
To change the subject slightly, do you have any of the "new" Gibraltar DEFENCE Police badges?

Thanks Jerry, The FIRMIN mark - is it the one on page 44 - Mark 2.1 FIRMIN (Large Letters) with clipped upper right hand vertical stroke of the letter āNā? Also, are the Gibraltar Services Police now known as the Gibraltar Defence Police changing name in 2009? No other Gibraltar Services Police badges I'm afraid. Regards Chris |

All 3 of mine (GSP & GDP) are marked Firmin. Just realised I haven't replied to one of your RM emails, will do that this week-end Paddy |

Your two SERVICES badges have the modern FIRMIN 2.1 mark (using A/A book reference numbers) on the Inspectors badge and the what appears to be the unknown date of use FIRMIN (Small Letters) 2.2 mark on the Senior NCO and Police Constables badge. The obverse of your Inspectors badge and both obverse and reverse of your Officers badge show that the came from the same dies as my badges did. Also, both the sliders on these badges are the same as those used on my badges. Conclusion - I would say that my badges would have been made before yours but that Firmin took the dies over and used them with their own mark after they eventually wound up the Dowler name during, so I believe, the mid 1980's. I would say that your badges were made from the 1990's onwards but before 2009 when the Gibraltar Services Police became the Gibraltar Defence Police. Thanks for this Paddy!
