Re: Italian Para Instructor qual
Good day Billy,
The Italian Para Instr qual you posted was in use until 1963. At that time, with the introduction of the present style of Italian qual wings, "Instructor Parachutist" was denoted by a red felt backing slightly larger than the outline of the metal wing. Your example might be a manufacturer's variation that was never issued or used. To quote the text from the section that Tonomachi drew his attached picture: "The Italian Airborne Forces have adopted a number of different parachute qualification insignia since WWII. Many of these are official, others are legitimate modifications of the regulation insignia and still others are unofficial parachute qualification insignia recognized within the unit or the branch of service. To these numerous different designs can be added manufacturer variations and subsequent reproductions." (my emphasis added). So, my opinion is that it might be a repro, but it also might be a variation. Ian B

The Chindits title is indeed a replica, the thread on original examples is thicker and it shows slant stitching.

This example was donated by either Brig Bernard Fergusson (The Lord Ballantrae) in the 1970s or Lt Col Ian MacHorton in the 1980s. Mike

This is a somewhat more commonly found pattern.
