Anodised Early Gurkha Engineers - Removing Paint
I managed to pick up an early all silver anodised Gurkha Engineers badge when I was back in the UK in April. It's not in great condition, but as it's a badge that's eluded me I wasn't going to pass it by.
Unfortunately though, the original wearer or a previous collector has tried to paint it up similar to the gold and silver anodised version that was issued later (and quite common). There are remnants of what looks like modelling enamel paint on the grenade and scroll. I'm itching to try and remove it bit don't want to damage the silver coating. Has anyone tried to remove enamel paint using enamel thinners and did it have any adverse effect? Thanks Mark |

Maŕk,use some cotton wool and nail varnish remover. The anodising will be unaffected.

Thanks Mike. Very helpful. I'll give it a bash this afternoon.

Mike
That worked a treat. It's removed about 99% of the paint and I'll finish the rest off tomorrow. Result below. Thanks again. Mark |
