There is similar situation but going back many years when the officers cord boss badge of the Royal Irish Rifles was used as the basis for some officers boss badges of the 8th ( Irish ) Bn. Kings Liverpool Regiment, a title scroll saying "8th Irish L.pool Regt." being inserted by the maker over the "Royal irish Rifles " scroll .

This is genuine..... its a Royal Hussars (1969-92) S/G collar with a x2 pin and clutch fitting.... and probably made by Gaunt...... but possibly a Tailor's supplied badge then replaced?

Hi Bess

Thanks for the images..... I will put them up here.

Your makers marked is a genuine example...... your unmarked is a duffer.

Chris says that he has just purchased one like your un marked example..... but "with" a makers mark. So Chris must have been sent an image of the back of the badge and therefore able to post it up here? There was no back image shown on the eBay sale of said badge.

As far as im aware Chris`s badges go to him via Andy P. Im sure that if Andy had doubts over the authenticity of the badge he would have passed them on to Chris.

Hi Mike,

The badge is indeed with Andy Plewa who collates all my UK purchase until there is a nice pile to send on to me here in New Zealand. As he only currently has two or three badges for me (and that these days I am looking for very few badges) it may be some months before I receive it.

However, Andy did send me images of the badge for me to check in case it, or any other item he receives on my behalf, needs to be sent back.

The Caernarvon and Denbigh Yeomanry badge Andy is holding for me is as per the example in 'The Badges' chapter of my book with matching die flaws to both front and especially the rear sides of the badge. If anyone needs to see what I have then they can get hold of a copy of my efforts and check both the badge shown and all the official info that I could find about its authorisation. As such, I have no issues with the two badges. They are not common and are the only two items I have ever seen.

Regards,

Chris

Chris

Me:-

"I missed out on the purchase of this item (141962852572) for the C&D Yeomanry. I forgot to ask at the time for an image of the back of the badge. Did you by any chance take an image of the back of the badge and send it on to any other buyers? If so may I have a copy of that image please?

The seller :-

"No I didn't sorry, the front and rear of the badge are exactly the same as the images found in Chris Marsh`s anodised book. I did realize after that I had posted the wrong image up. The image I used was the suspect C and D with the blank slider. laziness on my behalf im sorry and for not checking at the time."

So you bought the standard J R Gaunt version.
