These are cap badges for a Staff Officer, not just a Brigadier.
In WW1 officers as low in rank as a Lt. were on the staff. Both shades appear scarlet so just age/manufacturing differences. regards

They may be sleeve badges for the 15/19 KRH, not sure of the correct size.

I was about to reply by saying that the darker red backing may have signified a RAMC (full) Colonel / Brigadier.
But - as I prepared to post these badges I note that the backing is black. Anyway, the first two belonged to my grandfather who was a Colonel in the RAMC - the third was my grandmother's 'sweetheart brooch' ! I have one of his hats somewhere and that has a dark red band around the crown. By the way - here is great-grandfather - a Staff Captain in the RA wearing royal crest badge !! |

All the examples I have, either king's or Queens Crown are on a black backing rather than red. I wonder what that signifies.

The South African UDF Staff officers wore same badge with an orange (which can appear scarlet in some pictures) background similar to the first picture shown. These were adopted c.1934/35 and worn throughout WWII.
The second one appears to be more crudely constructed and flat in appearance similar in construction to Indian Staff officers badges I have seen (these however were on a black background). Steven |
