Default Unusual Essex Regiment Cap Badge

I recently purchased this unusual cap badge to the 1st Bn Essex Regiment. It is die struck and has the Spinx, the Imperial Eagle, and the 44th all on the one badge. It is 5.25 cm tall by 4.5 cm wide and has two lugs to the reverse.

I have not seen this badge before and cannot find it in any of the badge books.
Does anyone know when it was worn ? And where ?

Someone suggested it may have been made specially for Indian camp followers but it seems a bit too nice for that - it is extremely well made.

Minden militaria had a white metal version described as possibly a pagri for native staff in India.

An unusual one for sure.

Cool Essex badge

Whilst born and bred in Essex and have collected Essex badges along with others for a great many years, looking at this offering, I am not entirely convinced of what this is, Mess waiters turban badge or something dreamed up for the collectors market?

Who knows?

A photo of the back would be helpful, could you please provide one.
