Gurkha Sweetheart Brooch?

Hi all. I have just received this badge and I am not familiar with it. I am assuming it is a sweetheart type brooch, unless anyone can tell me any different? I saw seen a similar badge online being described as a "gift badge" but no other details. It is roughly the size of a 50p coin. It came with a matchbox holder that is dated 1991 so the badge could roughly be the same age?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

You see a lot of these about I think the museum shop sold them, maybe still do.
