Original WW2 Australian Paratrooper Wing?
I picked this up last weekend at a large insignia show in Southern California real cheap at only 20 dollars last Friday. It looks like the WW2 Australian paratrooper wing numbered 27 in the book titled, "ANZAC ELITE THE AIRBORNE & SPECIAL FORCES INSIGNIA OF AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND by Cliff Lord & Julian Tennant." The book describes this wing as "Parachutist. Local made for Z Special Operatives." The book shows a photograph of the front of this wing but not the back. Does anyone know if this is an original piece or could it be a copy?

Original WW2 Australian Paratrooper Wing?
Looks like a copy to me - the fabric looks too new and the definition of the outlines looks too perfect. Julian would certainly be able to verify it - my speciality is more to do with RAAF wings.

Thanks for your opinion and when I had it in hand it didn't look like something that was 60 plus years old but it looked just like the one in the book so I had to take a chance for 20 bucks.

i don't mind the look of this wing as there were a number of locally made versions.
Does it glow under black light? Paul Last edited by 3battalion; 14-05-16 at 11:11 AM. Reason: Spelling |

Then I would consider it recently made.

I just noticed that this particular wing is amongst a grouping of WW2 Australian airborne insignia in another post. The backing material as well as some paper remnants is identical so they must have come from the same source.
