Default SAS BERET PERIOD?

Please can anyone give a opinion on this SAS beret ?.The badges seems to have a extra tall piece on the top.Was this type ever worn and if so when?.Would it be original to the beret?
Thanks in advance

The badge is an early design and the beret is c.1990's therefore I assume the badge is a copy added to a surplus beret.

I agree with Jerry, the badge is a copy.

Cheers,

Not good at all, the beret itself is one not seen much, if at all. Even my crap leather banded one which ran into my badge had a leather band on.

The band on the beret looks the same as the Kangol Navy blue berets issued to us in the 80's altho ours had the sizing in metric.

I think the the beret is fine, it's a typical MOD issue one of the late 1970's to 90's I believe. The leather banded ones of the same period were private purchase I am told.

The badge on this beret is a fake as previously stated. Why anyone should do this to deceive if that is the intention I don't know when genuine issue badges of this period are common.

No leather banded ones are issued as well. Hope this helps.
