I suppose technically there is no difference in the poppy itself between the two 'issues' It is just that the printed dedication certificate for the 1st July soldiers are now all used up.

You'll have to keep an eye out for his medals. That would be something if you found them. No one would believe you and say you had faked the certificate.

The Battle of the Somme was fought over 141 days. It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on both sides of the upper reaches of the River Somme in France.

Here is another chance for somebody to obtain one of the Somme Poppies.

Not a 1st of July casualty, but a Dublin Fusilier killed in the September:

This is nothing whatsoever to do with me. "My" poppy is in my display case, and is staying there.

I think I will be actually taking mine out of it's box today, an appropriate thing to do today of all days!

Just walking around over the last few days, yesterday in Manchester, many people wearing various poppies, but, I have yet to actually see anyone whatsoever actually wearing a Somme or indeed, for that matter, a Passchendaele poppy.

Do people actually take them out of their box, ever, or is it just me?

Default Poppy

My daughter bought me one of each, and I do wear them both on different jackets all year round.

Interestingly, certainly does not appear to be happening now, a brief glance reveals "buy it now" prices up to £550!

I don't wear mine as I lose things.
I was persuaded into buying a knitted poppy by the RBL chappy at Tesco the other day(it looks very erm rustic and home made) I'll lose it no doubt and buy another before the 11th.

Interestingly, the BBC report today, that Trading Standards have seized 1700 counterfeit poppy products from a wholesale company in Manchester.
Their on line report contains photographs of a gold poppy that looks similar to the Somme poppy at a mere glance.

I'm not buying badges as much as I used to, but I still pick some bits and pieces up, mainly headgear actually, attached pics of my last 2 acquisitions(I haven't taken proper pics yet, the bone dome is ex TMW I feel I need matching cloth badges).
Now motorsport season is almost over getting my aviation head on, was at Lakenheath last week and might pop to Coningsby this week, so still very much into all the things I was, I just can't spend the cash I used to!
But I hope you are well and behaving yourself Frank 😀
