Default Favorite WWI medals?

Hello All,

Not too much of a medal collector here, but I do snap them up if found by chance. In the "found-by-chance" WWI category, this is my favorite: a '14 Star w/ Aug-Nov clasp & miniature to a guy in the 1/5 Scottish Rifles.

1st and 2nd World War medals to Sergeant John Angus Glendinning a pre war member of the Liverpool Scottish who was commissioned into the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1915 and by 1918 was a Captain attached to the Ministry of Shipping.

In WW2 he was Permanent President of Courts Martial, North West District and ended the war as a Lieutenant Colonel.

The medals include a 14 star trio. The Liverpool Scottish did not qualify for the 14 star bar but many members awarded themselves a rosette worn on the 14 star ribbon.

Nice one Mark,

Well done mate.

Like you I don't collect medals per-se. Except I do..

Well I collect any medal that is to my family name. As I don't have any verbal family history it's a great way to 'create' some myself.

Here is one of my favorites ( I know not WWI ) and my only Boer War example.

Cheers, Roy.

I also have a soft spot for medals.

These two Maltese Labour Corps bronze War Medals are not anything spectacular, but to me are tangible proof of association with Gallipoli / Salonika.

With regard to the medals and the picture of the recipient which I posted some time ago, I have recently been in touch with the family and received the following information in an E mail:

Thank you so much for sending the photos. You may be interested to know that the picture attached to the medal is not actually Angus Glendinning but is of his brother (my grandfather) Walter Glendinning. I think you extracted the photo and information form the book. My father (James Graeme Bryson) who knew them both well pointed this error out to the author but nothing came of it.

I am sure the error in the book "Bravest of Hearts " was an honest one but goes to show once again, never believe all you read.

1914 Mon Star to an old contemptible who served with 2/RWF is probably my favourite WWI medal in my collection.

That said, I picked this Territorial force Efficiency Medal to Cpl Edward Evans 3388/200703 of the 4th Welsh just yesterday which is a rather splendid medal to get. I wonder if I will ever find his missing trio. He went to Galipoli with the bn and was reported wounded in a welsh newspaper dated 17th Sept 1915 whilst he was in the Dardanelles.

I assume he was from Pembrokeshire or Carmarthenshire as the 4th Welsh were the TF battalion formed from the old 1st (Pembrokeshire) Welsh VB.
