Hi,

This is a sweetheart badge for 2/2 Aust MG Bn from the Second World War. Because it displays the original yellow/black triangular patch it is an early badge, from late 1941 this bn was associated with 9 Aust Div, and adopted the T shaped colour patch of that fmn from late 1942.

The bn was authorised to be raised in New South Wales as Corps tps on 30 April 1940, with A and B Coys raised in Queensland, C Coy in Tasmania and D Coy in Western Australia. Subsequently by authority of 11 June 1940 C and D Coys were transferred to the new 2/3 Aust MG Bn and two new coys were raised for the 2/2 in NSW.

On 22 September 1941 all MG bns became div tps and 2/2 became part of 9 Aust Div as previously mentioned.

It served in the Middle East, New Guinea (I think) and Borneo. Each coy comprised three platoons each of four (4) Vickers MMG. In NG it probably spent more time carrying for the forward tps than operating in its primary role.

Sorry but inf is not my primary research interest and I can't give you any dates when the bn deployed to operational theatres.

Keith
