Unknown, possibly livery?
This badge is cast brass and covered with solder on the back. Measures 35mm high. Identification?

I would agree with it possibly being a livery or civilian badge,

Thanks. If it is foreign I have never seen of this phoenix crest anywhere.

I doubt the coronet with jewels is English, more likely from the continent.

The coronet is exclusive to Earls. In this case, I believe: Richard Conway. Earl of Yarmouth. KG

The badge is indeed related to the Earl of Yarmouth. I believe that the badge was on the leather harnesses worn by the horses that pulled the state carriage for the Marquess of Hertford (who also held the title of Earl of Yarmouth). You will be able to find these harnesses and other examples of the badge in the tack room of the stables at Ragley Hall...as well as the state carriage. I have tried to upload an image of said harnesses.

Thanks for the ID. The variety of insignia of all types never ceases to amaze me.
I actually have aristocratic connections myself but try not to boast about it or adopt a superior attitude. I understand that my greatgreatgrandfather was stable boy to a DUKE!!!! |

Considering the liking the daughters of the aristocracy have for all things equine, including stable boys, you may have a closer connection than you think.
