Hi, I believe this to be a Livery Button but I’ve not been able to identify which one. Jennens & Co London with the Prince of Wales Plume dates from around 1912 – 1924. After 1924 they merged with Gaunt & Sons. If you Google “Livery Buttons” there are dozens of pages and it’s just matter of working your way through them until you find the button you have
Regards
Andrew

Hello

I agree that this is most likely a livery button and you might like to try this site for an identification - https://sites.google.com/site/liverybuttonsidentified/

An image sent to them with a request for an ID might prove useful.

I think your button is likely to be earlier than 1912-24. In 1912 Jennens became a limited company and tended to use a "Jennens & Co Ltd" backmark, usually without the Prince of Wales's feathers. The POW feathers had been used by Charles Jennens for many years but went out of use in about the 1830s/1840s but were reintroduced in about 1860 with a "Jennens & Co London" backmark address as per your button. They seem to have stopped using the POW feathers (as a general rule) sometime after Edward VII came to the throne in 1901. So, as a rather general rule of thumb, I would think your button dates from between 1860 and somewhat prior to 1912.

Regards
Roger

Hi

The rococo shield showing a demi-lion, fess and fleur de lis suggests someone named Chalmers. The small shield in the centre would be his wife's arms.
