Korean War, Japanese-Made Canadian Insignia
Hi all, I was reading through my Distinguishing Patches - 2nd Edition by Clive Law and there was a few words regarding private purchase Japanese-made Canadian Insignia. Clive mentions that these insignia were privately purchased by service men as they transited through Japan (pg. 58). I've attached examples in my collection of this type of insignia. I've included the Commonwealth Division, the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group and the "PPCLI" Jump Wings.
In a previous post, attention is drawn to the existence of Japanese made insignia for the Queens Own Rifles, PPCLI and Royal Canadian Regiment. Does insignia exist for the Van Doos as well? Like-wise, the PPCLI Jump Wing is commonly referred to as a regimental pattern (Parachute Badges and Insignia of the World, R. Braggs & R. Turner (Blandford Press, 1979, pg.185, plate 56) yet I believe the Van Doos were also para qualified so perhaps they also purchased this wing as a keepsake and the PPCLI moniker is incorrect. I was hoping that other collectors could post the other regimental insignias mentioned and any other that may be encountered by collectors as a reference. |

Some good questions Greg. There doesn't seem to be a R 22é R expert on any of the Fora (Forum plural ) that I read. I do have a R 22é R title in bullion, but it is questionable.
I am not aware of any officially issued bullion wire cloth insignia for the army. That type of badge was private purchase, most for wear on the blue patrol or mess kit uniforms. Bullion wire badges are, to my understanding, individually made. There is a great degree of variation in these badges, and I would be reluctant to identify any as a specific pattern.
