Default DLI lot of badge and patches

I have already posted a FS cap provided with a Durham Light Infantry cap badge with the circular cloth backing specific to the 1st Battalion, that during WWII mainly served with 10th Indian Division. Here comes a lot of cloth insignia belonging to the same person: a paghri canvas badge to the DLI, a 10th Indian Division printed canvas flash, two epaulettes slip ons with the 8th Crusader Shield and a 4th Indian Division printed canvas flash. Also attached a picture of the previous owner, in a Rifle Green (?) FS cap. Assuming that all these patches belonged to the same person, is there any evidence of 1st DLI having served in the 4th Indian Division? Thank you for your help!

1st DLI served in 10th Indian Infantry Brigade which was part of 10th Indian Division from 1942 to the end of the war apart from ten days in July 1944 when the Brigade served with 4th Indian Division.

This does not seem long enough to have worn the 4th's sign but probably long enough to pick one up as a souvenir.

Details from Chris Kemptons' superb Indian formation histories "Loyalty and Honour"

Thank you Jon! I did not know about it, but it really makes some sense!

Great items,

The Pagri badge is extremely interesting.

Many thanks for sharing them with us.

Cheers,

M

Although the DLI did wear the design shown as a pagri flash -see John Mollo's series of articles in The Formation Sign in 1987/88 - the printed example shown is more likley to be a regimental arm flash like that shown on the 4th Division battledress here.

I am uncertain as to which battalion of the DLI served in 4th (British) Division and would suggest that the combination of badges was probably worn just after the war when battalions moved from one division to another.

Jon, at the beginning I was also thinking about an arm badge, but after having sen tenths of pictures were 1st DLI wearing pit helmets had their paghris embellished by such a flash, I had come to the conclusion that the badge is a paghri one... I there any photographic evidence of such a patch being worn as an arm insignia?
