London Regiment War Memorials
I managed to stop by Kennington Park the other day while on a taxi run picking up the kids and took the opportunity to take a couple of pics of the 24th London Regiment memorial.
The inscriptions read as follows: Lower - 1914-1918 Remember The Fallen 1/24th and 2/24th (County of London Battalions) The London Regiment (The Queen's) France and Flanders Salonika Palestine Upper - This inscription added To Commemorate The Officers And Men 1/7th And 2/7th Battalions The Queen's Royal Regiment Who Gave Their Lives 1939-1945 How many others out there are there and where are they? I can think of the following I've seen but there must be others. 13th - Corner of High Street Kensington/Kensington Church Street outside St.Mary Abbots Church 15th - Somerset House, The Strand on the riverside emabankment 21st - St.Giles Churchyard, Camberwell Church Street 22nd - Royal Marines TA Barracks, Jamaica Road, Bermondsey.

Great post, thanks. The war memorial to the entire London Regiment stands outside the Royal Exchange (opposite the Bank of England) in the heart of the City. I know that the London Scottish memorials (Boer, WWI & WWII) are at the Regimental Headquarters, Horseferry Road. Since they are housed within the building itself, viewing (and access to the museum) is by appointment only, to the best of my knowledge. Artists Rifles' is at Burlington House (The Royal Academy of Arts) in the West End. The Royal Fusiliers' memorial is slap bang in the middle of High Holborn, close to Chancery Lane tube station: RF1.jpgRF2.jpgRF3.jpg I have some notes somewhere - I'll look them out. Hello Keith,
Maybe get down to the Smoke once a month with work. Am not sure of locations but have seen a memorial to the London Rifle Brigade some where around the perimeter of the Palace. One to the Royal Fusiliers ,don't know location but on a main road. And I'm sure somewhere close to St Pancras Station a coffee shop (may have been down stairs) with a memorial to the Artists Rifles. I know this is all very vague but not a local. Maybe you can elaborate. Cheers Tony.

I presume the H.A.C have something at their Barracks and the Inns of Court at the Temple, I'll check them out next time I'm in the area. My gut feeling is that there ought to be another, maybe the 6th London, somewhere in the Fleet Street area, maybe St.Brides Church or thereabouts.

It could well be worth asking a black cab driver - my mate is one & is full of info on landmarks like that - all part of the 'knowledge' I believe?
BTW, did you get my e-mail about the shoulder title arriving a week after you sent it? It really should be called Royal Snail!

My old pal, JohnG will be the man to nail the HAC memorial. Quite possibly Armoury House in City Road, but he will know.

12th Londons (The Rangers) is in Chenies Street W1 outside a deep bunker used as a command post in WW2 and now a document storage archive called The Eisenhower Centre (sorry for the long link - best picture)

We have a bronze plaque on a wall by the Town Memorial here in Paignton, Devon erected in memory of the 8th City of London (Post Office Rifles) who were billeted and trained at Paignton before joining the Battalion in France.

Keith, have spent a little time on the net to locate the Artist Rifles I touched on in my earlier post.
It was their Old Drill Hall I was refering to, now a dance acadamy at 17 Duke's Road off Euston Road between Euston and St Pancras stations, worked in there several years ago and remember the memorial to them on the wall! Cheers Tony.
