Default Somerset Light Infantry canvas flash

A recent purchase on ebay from a seller that could nor identify this Somerset Light Infantry flash. I guess is a paghri flash, or could have it been worn on the arm? Is the square shape a battalion distinction, since there's evidence that this flash came also in diamond shape? https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/a...0-a64300a70ba4 Thank you in advance for your knowledge, gentlemen!

The SLI cloth pagri (and there is an example in the SLI museum in Taunton) was the cap badge and not the numerals.

It's not impossible that the XIII was not worn on the pagri but all the evidence suggests not.

Default Som LI

from Sep 39 - Jan 43 135 Inf Bde, 45 Inf Div was made up of 5 Som LI, 6 Som LI and 7 Som LI. One of these three battalions wore the printed XIII in diamond format - so obviously the other two battalions will have worn it in another shape or design. I believe that 7 Som LI wore it in a rectangular or square format. At the same time 4 Som LI in 129 Inf Bde, 43 Inf Div wore a dark green 1 inch square. However, in a collection in France is a combination of a painted 43 Inf Div sign, 1 x red AoS strip and the square format, printed XIII flash Perhaps the wearer was in Bde or Div HQ rather than in 4 Som LI? And 9 Som LI (115 Inf Bde, 38 Inf Div) wore a square flash divided horizontally dark blue/yellow/green. Confused? So am I. Mike
