Victorian Argylls badge would have a solid centre and the cat would have a raised tail. Alan |

5th VB Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders
The 5th VB Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders 1887-1908 could possibly have had a voided centre if worn in the Edwardian era, although all the VB's shown in Bloomer have solid centres. I know Volunteers were a thrifty lot altering existing badges to suit their needs, however, I am always sceptical of VB's with tabbed scrolls.
An opinion only Rob |

The sealed pattern for voided badges was 1910.

The lugs don't look good IMHO.

Sealed patterns
Alan, from looking at K&K, badges were worn long before the pattern was sealed, many patterns were not sealed until the badges had been worn for many years, so I feel that sealed pattern dates are only a guide.

And the opposite also applies. badges were sealed and not worn for many years after. However in this case I still think it's not correct for a VB badge.

Why does everyone overlook the finish of the metal? Victorian and Edwardian white metal was bright, not the dull grey which the fakes are made of.
