Default 5th Royal Fusileers

The 5th Battalion "Royal Fusileers" 1876-1879.
"Undress" glengarry badge (Flank Companies)
As an honorarium to Major Kenneth Cambell the Highland flank companies of the 5th Bn Royal Fusileers adopted the Boar's head, the crest of the Clan Cambell, with the motto "I beare in Minde", the personal motto in archaic English of the Cambells of Harris.

This example in cast brass was a sporran or a pouch badge, north and south screw posts have been removed and replaced with east and west copper lugs for wear in the glengarry. Old lacquer staining, a rare find for this short lived badge.
Ref Brooker 105-11-17.

This badge isn't listed in Mazeas. The 5th were designated the Royal Light Infantry of Montreal 1862, then 5th Bn Royal Fusiliers Montreal 1875, then 5th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers 1880 and 5th Bn Royal Scots of Canada 1884. More designation changes followed. The insignia before 1884 is shown as a flaming grenade.
I am not sure what Chris Brooker bases his information on. Some background would be welcome.

Illustration from the back cover of E.A.Chapmans booklet the Black Watch of Canada 1862-1878.
This I believe shows the earlier thin die-struck version of the badge mentioned in Brooker.

See also example of the Quis Separabit motto that replaced it in 1879.

Ron, thanks for the information and reference. I was not aware of the Chapman booklet.
