Default Saw, Folding, Jungle, 6 in Blade

An historic piece of sophisticated British Army kit - Issued to me on arrival in Singapore in 1965 together with a machete (aka "golok"). The former was actually more useful - it was light and silent in use. No maker's marks at all - an unattributable item of equipment. Mike

Was the saw an "official" item albeit unmarked, or sourced outside official procurement?

I didn't ask at the time, but shortly after arrival in Singapore and before the Jungle Warfare Course, the BQMS issued all sorts of unusual kit to the Battery. The saw could, like the 24 hrs ration packs, have been procured locally, but was officially issued. Other items were probably left over from the Malayan Emergency - even a waterproof (!) jungle green Hussif. We discovered later that a superior version of the 44 Pattern small pack was made (and sold) by the Sam Hsing Weaving Factory, 8 - 10A Ma Hang Chung Road, Kowloon. The company was selling webbing to the Indonesians at the same time! The Jungle Warfare School was the source of privately purchased hammocks and sleeping suits made out of parachute nylon. I still have those too. Mike

I would hesitate to wear mine in public - I'd probably be arrested for offending public decency! Mike
