Default 45th Westcountry Division Drakes Drum

I bought these 8" x 6 1/2" Vehicle transfers last week.

The vehicle mascot/flag holder I have had for a long time.

Now I would love to find a picture of them in use.

I've read that the Division was disbanded in 1944, so presumably all this dates to before then?

Rob.

P.S. Sorry the cloth badge may be upside down

Rob,
What outstanding items. The 40 if on black ground indicates Div HQ - so this would be the Div Comd's staff car pennant "mast". If on dark blue it would be for the Comd Div RE's vehicle. I've always found it interesting that Divisions such as 45 Inf Div which never deployed outside UK seemed to have time on their hands to get into the detail of complex signs and signing. 61 Inf Div is another example with its unique range of battalion and unit markings.
Many thanks for posting these items - the transfers when applied must have looked very impressive - what are the dimensions?
Mike

Hi Mike

Yes the 40 is on black so I assumed it was made for the Divisional Commanders car?, it would be nice to find a picture to prove it though.

The transfer are 8inch by 6 3/8inch (203mm x 162mm) paper size.

The booklet is not strictly staff car flags but very similar.

The Western Command flag I may have posted before.

Not that I'm inferring that the transfers aren't period but there were (and presumably still are) a lot of 50's, 60's unit transfers being sold by a dealer on eBay for a few quid a time if they're of any interest.

Thanks Leigh,

I will have a look but I'm less interested in post WW2 items, although I suspect the Western Command flag could also be later, there seem to be a few of these Regimentally enhanced flags around.

Western Command is available as a transfer at the moment.
I say that - now I can't find it.

A super collection Tim.

I have a few vehicle transfers, these Airborne examples could well be wartime.

Another new addition to my staff car related insignia collection. Similar width to my Western Command pennant but a bit longer. I have found a couple of reference's to a "Brigadier in charge of Administration" both wartime and post war. The centre band is blue rather than the black of an Army Head quarters pennant, so any thoughts of an Arm of Service connection to Red/Blue/Red?
