Flamed Grenade Y/M Badge on Field Greyish Side Cap.
Can anyone identify what unit this cap is to please?
The badge measures about 38mm high by 41mm wide, is of thin, stamped yellow metal now toned brown and has single bent strip vertical lug fittings. There are no markings in the cap other than "56". I wont hazard a guess at the nationality as I don't really have a clue and would merely rattle off a list of half the countries in Europe. Or the world. |

Leigh,
The sidecap itself looks very similar to the Swedish Army version, any internal markings? Simon. |

No markings other than the size, 56.
The cap is of a similar fabric to a Swedish peaked field cap I have (the type that were often passed off by the unscrupulous as WWII German) but that has a distinct green tint. I'll start googling and book checking Swedish, thanks. |

The grenade has the same flame pattern as the Dutch Garde Grenadiers grenade. Perhaps a Swedish cap with Dutch grenade?

Thanks - could it be a Dutch cap and badge?

I'm not up to speed on (pre War) Dutch caps, but couldn't find anything like it in the uniforms and badges book. It's not wartime or post War. So I doubt the cap is Dutch.

Thanks, I think you're right re. this being a (1939 pattern) Swedish cap, it just lacks acceptance marks and the small blue & yellow cockade which has never been fitted to the front.
I'm left wondering whether the badge has, as suggested just been fitted to a cap that it has no connection at all with or whether its legitimately fitted to a Swedish made cap supplied as surplus to another army. I bought it because I liked the badge and I only knew what it wasn't - the "Grenadier Guards cap" that it was being sold as. |

Have seen a lot of these Swedish style caps round lately, most have the badge removed and are sold with all sorts of spurious descriptions.
