Default 1933 Masonic Pendant

Hi All,

I know this isn't military but I was wondering if anyone could tell me about this pendant:

https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/...irmingham-1933

I have a few WW1 relatives who left the forces and joined the masons, I'm wondering if this is something they would have worn or if it's something worn by masonic "officers" (sorry I don't know the correct terminology).

Thanks,

Michael

Hello,

Its a masonic set square, and is known as a jewel.

It should be suspended from a ribbon, which would ID its recipients status, usually some form of 'Master'

Google images for Masonic Jewel and you will see a lot.

regards

Relatively common Masonic Jewel. There used to be quite a strong masonic presence in the military so not unusual for soldiers or all ranks to be Masons. But this is a masonic item with no direct connection with the military.

More military had links with the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB or Buffs) with lodges within many units, not so these days.
