Victoria Cross copy
Why would someone pay $177.00 US for a copy of the VC? Am I missing something here? It had 39 bids from three different bidders.

Perhaps the description "estate find" has provided a suggestion to the bidders that it may be genuine, or an "unissued original"?

Hi Mike
VC copies are quite prolific on the market these days ... some good, some ghastly, and lots of "in betweens" If this is a good copy by Hancocks it will indeed be worth $177.00, but I see there is no mention of this by the seller, so it probably isn't ! Regards Jeff |

I compared it to the one on Hancock's website, all of the Hancock replicas are serial numbered. And although this is a good looking copy, its not as good as a Hancock replica. I am guessing it was auction fever.

Check to see if it has chocolate in it.

Originals have identifiable cuts into the rear design which can authenticate it.
This one though is a good copy. |

Each medal actually has a number applied to it, really? wow.
A collectors item then, I think that I would much rather have one of those! Last edited by Frank Kelley; 13-10-17 at 08:29 PM. |

Yes, there is a number for each VC ever awarded, one for each.

Well, it is still a copy, a differing bronze and I must assume, a differing set of dies, but, given the cost, I would certainly still like to hope, each example is finished to a similar standard.
