Mike,
Very interesting list. Do you have them yourself? As they are not in Chris Marsh's book I am sure that he would be very interested in seeing them. I know that some of the anodised badges in P Taylor's work are not actually staybrites as you would recognise but 1950s anodised base metal. I have owned an Stamford School CCF in this metal which was sold as staybrite but was not aluminium. Maker's manes would be very useful if they are marked. Alan |

Edinburgh Uni Tudor is in my book and was authorised. I did not come across the others but CCF badges did not usually go through the Dress Committee or are mentioned in other official publications so there may well be quite a few more CCF items out there that I did not record. With the exception of CCF pieces all cap badges recorded in my book are recorded in official publications and are referenced to the actual documents as such. This does not mean though that they were worn as official info on issue is very difficult to find. Regards, Chris |

Further to my previous post.
Edinburgh Uni Left, the wording on the scrolls is different to the QC version. Haberdasher Aske`s centre. St Benedict`s right |

Chris,
Sorry I meant to be specific to the CCF ones. I do wonder whether the cost of early a/a was prohibitive for the schools and that is why they seem to have gone for base metal. Millfield is another one that is very hard to find in a/a but more common in cast base metal. Thanks to all for this useful thread. More gaps to fill i n the cadets album it seems. Alan |

Millfield is an odd one.
Ive seen an example with a Smith & Wright slider but also a blank slider version which certainly isnt a S&W example. The example shown in the images of "the collection of the late Phil Harris " is lugged. The information i had was that the CCF finished in the 1970's . Im sure that came from the school in the late 80's . Yet the blank slider version appears to be resonably recent. |

The CCF was still going in 1992:

Hmmmm interesting ,it could well be that the CCF was restarted then . I clearly remember the call , " Can i speak to somebody from the CCF please" "We dont have one anymore" "Oh right ok,when did it finish ?" "In the 70s pacifist, communist headmaster" " well thank you for your help " |

It's in the London Gazette in 1979/80, again in 1984 and in Hansards in 1975.
