Default WW2 Bandsmen

Hi

While working the Holland Confirmation Thread, I found this pic of Cdn Pipers at Rocca, Italy, 1 March 1944.

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...IdNumber=1112&

I was surprised they were even in Italy organized as such. Were these soldiers Div or Corps HQ personnel who rolled out in a Pipers Uniform as required or what? Anyone care to educate?

regards
Darrell

They were regimental. The pipers uniforms were carried in B echelon or L of C and taken out as needed. They were infantrymen first, and pipers when needed.

Note these pipers appear to be Seaforths. They were titles and 1 CID patches on the jackets.

Thanks Charlie, the link wouldn't work for me earlier. The Lorne's were Employment and Defence Platoons in 1 CID.

Hi

OK, so their rig is Seaforths. Got it. I thought just generic highland band outfit. Sorry, I don't really do Infantry.

And a Infantryman, when the Bn was off the line and if he played the pipes, suited up as required.

Thanks.

regards
Darrell
