Lebanese Coast Guard
Just back from a holiday in Lebanon. Always look for badges usually with no success. But this time walking through Hamra district of Beirut found this lying on the pavement..
Legend reads harras sahil lebnan - literally Guard of the Coast of Lebanon. And why a Viking ship you ask - well it's Phoenician not Viking and the Lebanese claim descent from the Phoenicians who were at least as adventurous seafarers as the Vikings. The lighthouse is a well loved Beirut landmark. Just shows you have to keep looking all the time. Eddie |

Eddie,
The Phoenicians are better known as Cananites (from the land of Canan) in the Bible. Canan would include modern day Lebanon, part of Syria and environs. Yes, with some licence, that is a Phoenician trading galley. Rgds, button_guru |

Interesting badge. Thanks for showing.
There is a site on the Lebanon Army which shows some of their badges; http://www.lebarmy.gov.lb/?ln=en Go to "Rank & orders" then to "Emblems and flags". |
