A rare collection of early RFC, ARF, RAF and ATA wings. Or are they?
An interesting group of RFC, ATA and early RAF wings appeared on ebay on a 3 day listing, all having been bought '...in the 1970s and 80s...' They have a touch of authenticity about them but all seem very 'home made' or immature in their manufacture...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/spanmil/m...p2047675.l2562 Then I noticed another identical set, which came from a 'diseased' collector... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/lord-fusa...p2047675.l2562 Thoughts...? Last edited by Padre; 17-04-21 at 12:17 PM. |

This seller is renowned for selling spurious items and he has been discussed before in these threads:
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=65542 https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=64288 To also note: The ARP tunic he currently has listed has definite fake insignia on it.

Ahhhh, so are they one and the same (unfortunately some of those links are dead, but thank you for the reply).
I have a suspicion on 'Lord Fusaro', someone I was warned about 25 years or so ago... |

As Wooffy says Span Militaria which is run by Andy Beale has specialised for 20+ years in having manufactured and offering for sale reproductions of almost every type of militaria, helmets, bayonet scabbards, caps, badges etc etc.
Lord Fusaro is an alias of a similar person Nigel Flitter. He trades as military-trader-uk, hugo-sebastian, winston-churchill, 55nf, lord.fles, 435d-n, hsf2018 also. there are plenty of these people out there unfortunately. regards

I was aware of Flitter, (along with his dad Tony and brother Adam), being warned about him by a leading auctioneer many years ago, but didnt know all his alias'. Thanks for updating me.
Spanmil I'd seen, but wasnt aware of their history. Thanks for that too. |

So, his description of 'diseased collector is right?!
Youd have to be pretty thick to put both sets up at the same time! |

Can’t say I will be bidding on any of them. The concern is that in years to come, new collectors will not have first hand knowledge of how these reproductions / fakes were introduced into the market and could be taken in, paying serious money.

That is always the problem, they need to be highlighted upon sites such as this forum so people are aware of them

The ATA wing finally went for £160.00!

A real one is worth considerably more than that, but, it does highlight the point already made regarding people assuming original items.
