17th County of London Pouch Badge
Is this 17th County of London (Poplar & Stepney Rifles) a fantasy badge Please?
It has a QVC, but I have read that they were not fomed until 1908? 85mm x 70mm. Three threaded studs on reverse. TIA |

Will this be for sale shortly too? If so forum rules are you should state this from the outset.

The regiment existed from 1908 until 1967.
Its not a Victorian Crown, its a Guelphic crown. Most commonly used by the Rifle Brigade on their belt plates. From approx 1823 right up to 1958,except for a 50 ish year period when the KC was used. Appears on their last cap badge and used from 1952. But then carried on by the London Rifle Brigade Rangers. |

I don't regard it as my job to police the forum, but as I recall you seemed a little irked when you were asked a while back if you were seeking assistance re. badges you intended to sell.
Nobody's taking a pop at you - it's simply that a basic rule of the forum is that if you are intending to sell a badge that you are asking questions about then you state that you are intending to sell it. I believe that there's also a request that you offer the badge in question to forum members first. Whatever, the point is that the forum rules require/ request that you state that if you are selling the badge you want people to help you with information about, you say so. Presumably you've been unaware of this? |

The colour, the manufacture, the un natural wear and the extremely poor quality scream fake to me.

I agree, the quality is very poor.

Thanks, I think you both are dead right. Looking at the Threads on the studs more closely, they are moulded and have a mould line on them so would never have taken a nut.
Cheers |

May I suggest that you take a break from researching your forthcoming ebay sales and contribute to the forum rather than just using it as a sales tool.

With the greatest of pleasure Alan.
You really are a different breed to the antique community. They help out other dealers who are less experienced as well as collectors, and enjoy imparting their knowledge freely so everyone can benefit. A good look in the mirror may not go amiss to certain members. I now fully understand why a very well known collector and seller left this site. |
