I think its an attempt at an officers badge but im sure the globe in the centre is meant to be white/metal or silver gilt and the lugs look like they are copper not brass.
Hope this helps |

As BJ has said above, the general consensus is that this style of badge is a Spoof or fantasy item, it was possibly made for the collectors market. It isn't a copy of an Officer's helmet plate it is more akin to the old Warrant Officer's helmet plate but nonetheless a fake. There is also a Queen's crown version. I have both in my collection but I keep them for reference and from memory I did not pay more than £5 for either. The one you show the link to is also a fake and a very expensive fake at that. If you go to page 2 of the link I have attached below you will see genuine versions of an Officer's and a Warrant Officer's helmet plate. On the Officer's version the Per Mare Per Terram motto is pierced on a circlet with a garter/buckle at the bottom whereas the Warrant Officer's version has it on just a circlet (not garter/buckle at the bottom) which is why I believe it to be a copy of the Warrant Officer badge and not the Officer badge. Both versions should be gilt, with a blue enamel disc to the rear of the mottoand should have silver globes. I have also shown pictures of a genuine Officer's helmet plate and the 2 fantasy badges I have. http://www.rmhistorical.com/images/Helmet%20Plates.pdf Paddy |
