Default Naval Epaulettes on Ebay

Hi all curious about the epaulettes offered on ebay at present ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Navy...item3ccf2f2a6f

They are not Royal Navy I'm sure, the pattern with the crown is very much like those worn by ships officers of the British Antarctic Survey but the grey cloth between the gold braid is confusing? The only people I've seen wear grey before are officers of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors, who although civilian engineers hold equivelant RN ranks but they also have the executive curl on top of their braid and not a crown. So BAS, RCNC or something else? anyone got any ideas?

Regards Tony

I too have pair of similar shoulder boards I placed on the forum a while back trying to ID.

They are certainly older than those examples Tony has shown on ebay, but when I viewed the pair Tony linked to I immediately thought of the pair I have....

I assume Paymaster but I dont know if RN or other?

The ebay lot has generic stock anchor buttons. RCN's boards have King's Crown R.N. Officer's buttons.

Hi there, on these examples, is the colour between the gold braid light grey or dirty/faded white? on the example from ebay it is a definate mid grey of the exact colour of the RCNC but they Do have an executive curl on the braid and this type of crown is exactly as used by the British Antarctic Survey (picture below) It's interesting the different types of buttons though? will be interested in what other people think?

Hi Guys
The plain stripes with a crown above was also used by the British Weather Service I believe. The white between the stripes would be a purser, green - electrician or radio officer, though those are mostly obsolete now.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Bryan
Sorry, I really don't know muchabout them. I have one of the eppaulettes and id'd it from a dealer website a few years ago as the Ocean Weather Service. A brief search on the net didn't find much, but I haven't really looked.
Cheers,
Alex
