Default Is this button military at all?

Hi all,

I found this one from the junk box and I am struggling to ID it. Is it military at all? On the back there is fixed loop and maker stamp "William Jones & Co, London".

Kind Regards,

Timo

Most definitely, a quick Google throws up the maker as being a London based Company with references made to military swords and helmets, amongst other things. The design is unusual, I'm wondering if it's some kind of pre-1900 Militia?

Similar to the Tyneside Scottish tower on their demi lion badge. Regards, Paul

Hello Timo,

I would have thought this was most likely a livery button worn by the household staff of the nobility, landed gentry and such like.

The backmark, William Jones & Co, was, as far as I know, for a tailor/outfitter rather than a button maker, so it would not have been unusual for them to supply civilian buttons as well as military ones.

Check out this link for a variety of similar tower-themed livery buttons. At a quick glance yours did not seem to be there but some are very close.
