Default 2018 Commonwealth Games - Gold Coast

Hey Guys,

Here's the patch being worn by Australian Defence Force personnel who are involved in supporting the 2018 Commonwealth Games - Gold Coast as part of Operation Atlas.

Enjoy!

Last week from my mountain top vantage point in the Gold Coast hinterland, RAAF F-18s (?) and Blackhawks much in evidence. Reassurance patrols, I imagine. Mike

Smile The Commonwealth Games

Greetings all.
My unit was utilised for security clearances for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games as Operation Acolyte.
We were attached to a couple of Reservist units.
It wasn't an enjoyable deployment. Long nights looking under stadium seats, and x-raying everything that went into the athletes' village (including a couple of shipping containers of toilet paper rolls!)
We didn't have special arm patches but we did fashion our own logo: a pineapple. Because we all thought we got the rough end of the crappy jobs. And our motto was: "Apparently it's a real operation".
However we did get a gift bag with a shirt, baseball cap, towel with the Games icons on them.
I was on standby to salute British PM Tony Blair as he was to exit our point but they changed at the last moment. One of life's little disappointments?
