King Edwards Horse.
G'day Ric
First of all these two badges are not King Edwards Horse, they are Kings Colonials. The squadron badges for Australasia, ie Aust & NZ hence the K'roo and the fern, K&K 1376. The second is for North America and has a beaver and is inscribed British American, K&K1374. Now to the badges, I have 2 of the Australasian, one has the lugs are east west, it is quite dark and looks more like blackened brass and has a copper copour rather than a yellow colour, I'm told that this one is origonal. My other one is more yellow than the first and has North South lugs like yours and does not look as old as the first and is probably a repro. I also have the British African with an Ostrich, it has east west lugs and looks old, it is dark but not as dark as the Australasian and is probably a good one also. Sad to say I think that your two are repros, I dont like the look of the way the lugs are attached, its a big dob of solder and the lugs look as if they have footed bases. Hope that this helps. Cheers. Phil. |
