badge lot
I received these badges along with some Canadian ones in a group lot. I am getting more experience handling British badges but am still a novice in this area. I'd like to make my observations on these badges and then open it up for comments from the experts on the forum to see how I've done. The officers ASC badge in my opinion is O.k. except for condition... lugs removed, top pin for the overlay missing and the backing piece in behind the overlay chipped. (still a nice badge). The Welsh Fusillershas a sweat hole behind the grenade so I'm hopeful this is also good. The 3rd Dragoon Guards I'm starting to be leery of although it does have a tiny sweat hole behind the crown and the scroll is tagged. The crown on the front is chipped on the left side and the stamping of the scroll looks alittle odd to me from the back. The 14th Hussars I'm not holding my breathe on . The overlay on the front is damaged and the left wing has some overrun showing sloppiness of workmanship. Also sloppy is the attachment of the slider as it is off center. There are no braize holes on the back and you can see where the metal has changed colour on the back where the overlay was sweated on. Anyways... there they are.... any comments good or bad appreciated.. Jim

Hi Jim,
I would agree with you about the Officers' Service corps badge but it hasn't had the lugs cut off, they are supposed to be blades ! Andy has an example if you want to ask him what it should look like, as for the other three, over to the experts. Dave.

Badge opinion
I don't like the two cavalry badges, I think a badge such as the 14th Hussars which is pre 1914 should have loops, the 3rd Dragoon Guards has very poor detail on the reverse of the scroll, something I would not expect to see in a cavalry badge of that period.
As for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, I think it is OK. The ASC should have blades as Davec2 says. This is by the way only my opinion.

Hi Jim,
Slightly embarrassed, Andy's isn't the silver and gilt version, my mistake but it highlights the style of the badge, ie the blades. I would, on reflection, agree with Rob about the R.W.F.'s but I know more about brain surgery than Cavalry badges !!! Dave.

the two cavalry badges, are ok the 14th Hussars which is pre 1914 can have lug or slider after 1911 the 3rd Dragoon Guards yes as poor detail on the reverse of the scroll but its ok
As for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, nice badge . The ASC can have blades or lugs peter

14th Hussars
The one thing I missed on the 14th is the sceptre and left claw, which seems to be missing, or is it a trick of the light?

I`ve just come across this thread and was wondering, if your 14th Kings Hussars badge is genuine. I`ve got one with no sweat holes in as-well, the slider came off when i was cleaning it. Cheers Andy

The coronet on the 3rd dragoon guards is also damaged, Andy as for the badges being genuine ask the dealer who said they were to give you the reasons
