Default Shirley Brooks military tailors

Hi All,

I am attempting to date a coloured field service cap manufactured by Shirley Brooks of 41 to 42 Artillery Place, Woolwich.

I know from the Internet that they were established in 1855; became incorporated as a limited company in 1907; became army and territorial outfitters, military contractors in 1914 but there the trail seems to go cold.

I have also found several newspaper/journal advertisements of the period 1915-'18.

I therefore, believe that the item was probably manufactured after 1914, but does anyone know and can anyone kindly tell me when (if?) they ceased operating as a military outfitter under this name?

Any help to put me out of my misery would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Pete.

Pete,

Showing the cap and all its details might help date it.

I believe that Shirley Brooks was still operating in Woolwich in 1960. Mike

Hi Jerry/Mike,

Thank you both for your replies.

It hasn't arrived yet, but it's a coloured field service cap. I'll post pictures once I have it.

Kind Regards,

Pete.

I should also have said that it has Kings Crown GS buttons, but that doesn't refine it beyond what I already know.

If they were still in business in 1960, then the time frame could be 1914 to 1952.

KR,

Pete.

Pete,

Most likely to be post 1937 when they were reintroduced.

Thanks Jerry and btns!

Potentially, 1937 to 1952 then.
