25th Division badge
Just out of interest, I read in "The History of The Cheshire Regiment in the great War" by Colonel Arthur Crookenden.
The reason why the 25th Division wear a red horseshoe with a blue bar as a distinguishing mark is that the Colonel of one of our (Cheshires) Service battalions at the Battle of Pozieres picked up a German horseshoe which he handed to the G.O,C. who from that time adopted the horseshoe as the distinguishing mark of his command. |
