To answer my own question, if anyone is interested.

Yes they did have shoulder titles, the letters S.D.F. in brass. This information was obtained from British Colonial Badges II by Renfrew, Renfrew and Cranston, page 163, image 2323.

Now the difficult task of trying to find one!
