Default Military School/School of Musketry Badge

Can anyone give me some help on this badge. It has been suggested that it is pre-1867 (Military School) or possibly late 1800's (School of Musketry) Any ideas anyone????

Other ranks forage cap badge of the Canadian School of Musketry at Ottowa.

The 'School' was considered Permanent Force, having no 'Militia' component. Their purpose was to train 'Musketry Instructors', of all arms of both the Permanent Force and Militia, who would then return to their units to instruct their own personnel in the skills of musketry.

The Canadian School of Musketry was authorized by the government in 1903 and at the outbreak of the Great War (1914) the school's personnel strength comprised of attached officers from permanent corps and 9 other ranks.

Default Military School/School of Musketry Badge

Thanks for the reference. With the Victorian Crown, I suspect it was in use during the 1800's. I have never seen any reference to this badge.

HI Toby, Could you give the reference for the article? I can see the journal name, but not the date. (Or a bit larger scan?)
Thanks.

Bill, I can make out Oct. 11th but not the year. By enlarging the photo, I could read a reference to the late War (I presume the Boer War) and also, toward the end of the article, a reference to the desition to use the Ross Rifle as the weapon of choice at the school. Maybe we'll hear more from Toby. Regards, David J.
