I've just received the badges and suffice to say I'm delighted (and relieved) to say that they're all in good condition with lugs intact and I believe I can now attribute them with greater accuracy ( and support from forum members) - there are still a few mysteries which if anyone can help further please chip in.
Photos 1/2 Jammu & Kashmir State Forces - ( larger and finer than Cox 2617 ) - Pretty sure its silver - finely die struck badge mounted on a brass plate - interestingly the brass plate is meant to be seen as the crest is mounted on the plate and the lugs mounted to the plate.Photos 3/4 The Mir of Kaipur State Forces ? Been advised its the Faridkot Imperial Service Sappers - quite heavy cast badge - circle is almost certainly toned silver. Rather fine silver badge to Cochin (Raja of) Tranvancore (The Maharaja of) same as Cox 2622 - although this is silver not white metal - it has a nice reinforcing band running through the wreath. Photos 5/6 Bahawalpur States Cap badge? Bahawalpur States collar badge? Photos 7/8 [Bahawalpur Mounted Rifles (Cox 2623) - shoulder title determined whether it was the mounted rifles or camel corps - cap badge was the same - crisp die struck pos silver Photos 9/10 Rompur Rohilla Lancers (Cox 2646) - Finely cast badge w/m Photos 11/12 - shoulder title ?- 2nd Rampur Murtaza Infantry 1st Rampur Raza Infantry Photos 13/14 1st Gurkha Coy - Rompur State Forces cap badge and shoulder title 1924>1931 I'll upload the rest later - my interest is only Gurkhas - so if any members have an interest in any of the other badges let me know - my preference would be exchange for Gurkha items - if not make me an offer - Tim |

Part two:
Photos 1/2 1st Rampur Infantry crisp cast gilt brass cap badge , Rampur State Artillery fine cast brass badge with 3 lugs. Photos 3/4 Small cast brass cap badge or collar to the Bodyguard of The Nawab of Bahawalpur ( I think? ) Small well cast silver(?) cap badge or collar to Nabha Akal Infantry - NB slightly different scroll to the one shown by another forum member this one reads AKALINFANY NABHA 4/15th Punjab Regt - collar badge cast brass |

3. Appears to be the Bahawalpur Body Guard Cavalry.
4. It is the Bahawalpur 1st Infantry (Sadiq Battalion). 5. Bahawalpur. The book says it 'may have been the badge for the Combined Mounted Rifles and Infantry Corps.' (1922). This became the 1st Sadiq Battalion in 1923 and 1st Infantry (Sadiq Battalion) in 1931. Last edited by koi_hai; 06-09-18 at 06:12 PM. |

It is a very useful book and the only one that deals with the Indian State Forces (and their insignia). However, if your collecting interest is in the Gurkhas, it might be of limited utility.

Many thanks Koi Hai - my collection is only Gurkha related but I have a general interest in the Indian forces - so I think I'll treat myself to a copy of the book. It's not the first time I've acquired some States insignia as part of a job lot - so it would be good to have the book as a reference. I have been in correspondence for many years now with Ashok Nath, and have copies of his splendid works "Sowars and Sepoys" and "Izzat" - but neither deal with the Insignia of the Imperial Service Troops. I assume all of the other badges I've identified are correct? Tim
