Default AUSTRALIAN ENAMEL COLOUR PATCH BADGE WW1 or WW2

AUSTRALIAN ARMY ENAMEL COLOUR PATCH BADGE made by SCHLANK ADELAIDE

38mm x 9mm in size
I have seen a photo of a AFC chap (WW1) wearing a badge identical to this under his observer wing can anyone tell what it means or is . The badge is red in colour but there is a blue one as well that belonged to him.

Thanks

Default Pictures of the 2 badges and AFC chap wearing one of them

Here is a group photo of a red and blue badge in his group of personal items and a photo of him wearing one of these badges under his observer wing and he was in the AIF as Field Engineer and then transferred to the AFC and trained in England so these badges are Australian made in Adelaide and this photo is early in the war in England so what is it ????

Without that photographic provenance, we'd all be in the dark.

One picture makes a big difference doesn't it. While we still don't know what it is... however we now do know that the items were uniform worn... so we have all learned something from this. Hopefully the rest of the details will come up now as well

The badge company Schlank were using SS & Co as their mark before and after WW1 & up until at least 1925. Further research may reveal exactly when they started using Schlank only as their mark.
