Default 11TH HUSSARS BERETS

Hi Guys
I had today ( pre arranged ) as I know one of the curators at the Horse Power Museum ( The Kings royal Hussars Museum ) in winchester the good fortune to have a good look and handle What can only be described as a unique hands on expereance of handerling some of the rarest berets in exstance the cheery pickers WWII berets here are the pics of the berets as you will see they are not what you would 1st think and are unique item of head dress . There was only about 1500 serving personel in the 11 hussars during WWII they had a brown beret with a red ( wine red ) band around them
exampes are very hard to find let alone see out side of the museum A BIG THANKS TO THE CHAPS AT THE MUSEUM FOR ALLOWING ME TO BRING THESE TO THE FORUM !!!
PICS 1-2 Privately made example off an officers example made by Herbert Johnson
PICS 3-10 Are issue examples all dating from WWII

The Wiltshire Yeomanry wore this beret as well.... in the early 1990s. I think it was the B Squadron of the Wessex Yeomanry. Our "A" (PWORWY) Squadron in the Royal Yeomanry had the proper Royal Blue.

I think the Wessex Yeo still wear it? In my day it was the "Cow Pat" with the Cherry patch and cap badge...... now I think its the "Cow Pat" with a black patch and all the Squadrons wear it with their own Cap badges on regimental backing cloth.

The Wessex Yeo had a Royal Hussars Colonel..... that changed the headdress to that of his old regiment. That's what I remember being told when we were on Exercise with them anyway.

I've read about these berets but not seen any before now. Very interesting, thanks Steve.

Here is a "Cow Pat" for the RDY Squadron of the Wessex Yeo.... no black patch, they have a scarlet round patch for their cap badge.
