Tartan Flash Guide
This is where I am so far with my reference guide for tartan flashes. I hope it appeals to some of you.
If you can help with the questions on there I would be most grateful. Regards, Bill

Hi Guys,
sorry the pics were not as good as I expected. I'll add the answers as they come in. I am still looking for other Commonwealth Scottish Units. I am also still looking for confirmation on the following: 1. Were RHF Pipers TOS Badges worn on Dress Erskine Flash? 2. Was 4/5 Seaforth worn on TOS/tartan or glengarry? 3. Was KOSB 4th Bn worn with Buccleuch Flash on TOS? No, Glengarry worn by pipers. 4. Was Glasgow Highlanders worn on TOS with Black Watch flash? 5. Was Tyneside Scottish worn on TOS with tartan flash? No flash worn on TOS. 6. What tartan does Glasgow & Strathclyde UOTC wear? 7. Do New Brunswick Scottish wear a TOS or tartan flash? 8. What tartan did 51 Sigs Regt wear and was it on TOS or beret? 9. Is Essex & Kent Scottish Officer’s TOS flash different from ORs version? I am looking for black and white, high resolution, line drawings of the following: 1. Royal Highland Fusiliers Piper’s Badge. 2. Nova Scotia Highlanders Badge. 3. RHF of Canada Badge. 4. Essex & Kent Scottish Badge. This is a work in progress. If you see any errors or can add anything to this list please let me know. Any help would be much appreciated. cameronian50@hotmail.com

Can do you a scan of a Canadian A & SH badge backing from about 1958, but that's about it....

3. Was KOSB 4th Bn worn with Buccleuch Flash on TOS?
Buccleuch tartan was worn exclusively by pipers of the 4th Bn and during WWII by the 6th (Border) Bn. Pipers wore Glengarries, so I don't think so. Rgds, Thomas. |

Thanks for your answers guys, much appreciated.
Leigh, would be grateful of the scan, thanks. Fougasse, I had a feeling that the Buccleuch tartan would not have been worn, thanks for the help. Regards, Bill

Thanks for the answer on that one,
I think the second picture looks like the black ribbon that you get on a glengarry. Another question answered Thanks again for the info, Cheers, Bill

Just come across this photo of fathers badge from the 1950's, I only have a shot of the front at the moment & the badge is obscuring the patch.

A couple more badges with tartan patches, HLI "long scroll" pattern & HLI with hackle.
Both patches are double thicknesses, the 1st Bn wore a white hackle until 1947, the 2nd Bn white over red, the 1st Bn adopted white over red upon the disbandment of the 2nd Bn in that year. |
