Unknown Silver Grenadier Guards Grenade
I have a feeling this is Victorian, it is definitely silver, crisp and sharp to the touch on the flames, complete with three bars with square nuts.
It came to me amongst some recent purchases, It’s certainly not modern. Can anyone tell me what it’s for (if it is Grenadier Guards)? It looks too big to be a cap badge etc, and too small to be a Baldric plate etc.

I came across a badge like this several years ago and I believe that its one of the Australian states Artillery badge!

Its very nice. I don't think its Grenadier Guards. However in the Guards Museum there is a FSH to a very senior officer with this type of grenade on it. Gilding metal though. I believe it is a one off as there is nothing documented. But you never know.

I’m sure I’ve seen that FSH too. I’ll try and get a photo next week.

Yes, worn in WM and brass by NSW and Victorian artillery and possibly other state artillery as well, 55 mm I think. Also worn on a belt buckle (see
attached). |

I don't know what it might be but the screw and nut fastening suggests belt buckle or pouch plate rather than something meant to be worn on clothing.

Some more images, it appears to be solid silver, the tarnish on the reserve has a certain ‘silvery rainbow tarnish’ to it that I would expect to see.
As you can see it measures 55mm x 43mm. I’m still on the fence re it’s origins. While the size and pattern are identical to the NSW artillery plate, I’ve not found another in solid silver.
